Financial aid to the furniture industry

Exhibiting at furniture industry trade shows being held in 2019 and 2020

To bolster the development and consolidation of export activities in North America, and in collaboration with the Québec Furniture Manufacturer’s Association, Export Québec is renewing its support to Québec furniture industry companies so they can take part in major industry trade shows as exhibitors.

The financial assistance, provided in conjunction with the Programme Exportation (PEX), will be granted up to a maximum of $50,000 per company, based on the criteria and conditions listed below.

Eligibility criteria

  • Be a business whose finished product is furniture or is destined for furniture manufacturers, and the production of which is wholly or largely done in the province of Québec.
  • Comply with the conditions set by PEX.
  • Meet the following financial criteria:
    • based on the last audited and, if applicable, consolidated financial statements:
      • generate revenues of $50 million or under (REV ≤ 50 M$),
      • have paid out under $1 million in dividends in the last year (Div ≤ 1 M$).
  • Are not benefiting from regular financial assistance from PEX to take part as an exhibitor in one of the trade shows subject to the request.

 

Activities and eligible expenses

A business project must include activities:

  • of exhibiting at a trade show outside the province of Québec;
  • of the company’s employees’ travelling outside Québec for an exhibition at this trade show, and such travelling must be done over a maximum and continuous 12-month period.

The expenditures directly related to the carrying out of these activities must have been incurred after the date of sending the request to the Ministry for these expenses to be deemed eligible in calculating the amount of financial aid.

The expenditures related to the leasing of exhibition space may have been incurred prior to the date of sending the request and could still be deemed eligible provided the trade show takes place during the period the project is being carried out.

  • Rental of and setting up an exhibition space.
  • Transporting exhibited merchandise (external costs only).
  • Fees, including, if applicable, travelling expenses and the outside expert’s stay.
    • Ex.: photographer, graphist.
Prospects-generating mission and other travels outside Québec by company employees
  • Travels and stays outside Québec.
The objective of the travels must be to display the company’s products -  or offer services – at a
trade show.

 

Details about the financial aid

The financial aid granted to the company is in the form of a non-refundable contribution. This assistance can be up to 40% of eligible expenditures, to a maximum of $50,000, spread out over a maximum period of twelve months.

  • The financial aid for travel and stays outside Québec for company employees is granted in the form of a lump-sum payment. Travel is round-trip from Québec,

The accumulated amount of government financing cannot exceed 50% of the project’s total expenditures.

The amount of financial aid, all requests combined, that can be granted as part of the PEX program during the current financial year, is a maximum $100,000. The financial aid may be reduced if the company already has a financial aid contract in force as part of the PEX program.

Deadline for submitting the request

Businesses must submit their request online no later than March 15, 2019. No request will be considered after this date.

 

Acceptance or refusal notice

Acceptance or refusal of the financial aid request will be sent to the businesses no later than March 29,  2019.
